New Insight

I was exploring my website this week (https://cscce.berkeley.edu/), and I came across an article called "What's Causing the Shortage of Qualified Early Care and Education Teachers." (https://cscce.berkeley.edu/hole-in-the-bucket/) I found this interesting because I have seen how hard it can be to find early education teachers, and I was interested in learning more. The biggest reason that there is a shortage due to lack of acceptable compensation, the article stated that early child care is the lowest-paid occupation. The shortage comes from various reasons, but one of those reasons is education requirements. I believe that many people view childcare as a job to have while attending school and not as a career. Therefore many of them don't have the required education to be alone with children. This leads children to be with teachers who are not qualified, and therefore, they do not have quality learning. My new insight is that this field is one of the lowest-paying jobs; early educators need to work together to change that and raise early educators' compensation.

    I totally agree with your article. The compensation plan for early childhood teachers is just disappointing. Where I am from, the CNMI, Early childhood teachers are compensated equally through all primary and secondary educators. We are also held to the same standards when it comes to qualifications. I believe that the entire nation should follow suit because it really opens up more doors for competition for employment. Thank you for sharing!

    Thank you sharing your post. The pay for early childhood teachers is very ridiculous. If they require us to have a lot of education, they should know that it cost for us and a lot of our time. The qualifications does not go with our pay. There are real good teachers out here, but they will not take any type of pay but the good pay.

    Yes the pay has caused many educators to leave the classroom or the early childhood filed altogether. I am one of them. I left the classroom in the child care sector long ago because it could not provide for my family. I have found a path within the field that is better in compensation but still low comparable to other fields with similar responsibilities. It really is a disservice to children.

    The comments made concerning teacher pay are mirrored in both my current place of residence and that of the former. It is an issue that caused a personal decision much like that of others posting. It is a perpetual cycle of tragedy.
